French 19th Century Louis XV Style Gilt Bronze Chenet Set with Playful Children

About the Item

A fine and large French 19th century Louis XV style gilt bronze figural Chenet (andiron) and Fender Suite. The impressive fender surmounted on each end by a figure of playful battling armorial putto (children), one holding a sword and a shield, the other a holding a spear and shield, both with relief allegorical plaques below depicting playful battling scenes, both ends joined by a cartouche centered with a shield and flanked by leaf and acorn and laurel wreaths, Paris, circa 1890-1900 Measures: Height: 16 1/2 inches (42 cm) Width: 49 inches (124.5 cm) Depth: 8 inches (20.3 cm)

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. A truly beautiful and very charming set of andirons. The overall condition is very good with some age gilt fading. The spear on the putti on the right was bent on purpose to prevent from getting lost.
