Pair of Early Victorian Fireplace Brass Andirons. American, Circa 1850

About the Item

Lovely original surface to these pair of classical Victorian solid brass andirons, with bold vertical turned and bulbous design to the post; connected below to horizontal iron log supports (billet bar). A vertical hand forged threaded rod goes up through the centered hole of the billet bar where it has been hammered and pinned over and then welded; ending at the top; screwed on to the threaded brass turning which has been sand cast into two parts and joined; all validates Victorian design and genesis. One andiron is 1/2" higher than the other, attesting to handcrafted forged and wrought iron making. Andirons rest on cabriole type legs with a spur to each side, and sitting on ball feet. Please note the photo images in the listing to view this construction and nomenclature. They are in excellent original condition with a bright patina to the brasses; there is no restoration or brass repair; ---very attractive and traditional design; great size, suitable for almost all fireplace decorating applications; guaranteed to warm up and complement any hearth.
