Double capital with hook decorations

 Reduced—cut in the back in modern times H 22 x L 41 x P 20 cm 'Hook' is the name given today to these ornaments ending in leaf heads or rolled-up buds, frequently used in monumental sculpture from the Middle Ages starting in the 12th century. Hooks can be seen in friezes, capitals, along the slopes of gables or pediments, and in the grooves of archivolts between the clustered columns. The 13th century particularly embraced this ornament, using it with remarkable skill
