About the Item

Italian details and beautiful acanthus hand carved leaves designed in an upward sweep make this pair of architectural finials stand out. These are circa mid to late 18th century giltwood pieces, each on a rounded foot. We believe these were part of a staircase or possibly on a fence post or column. They are quite heavy and measure 16 inches tall and 11 inches in diameter. There is no peg, just a round hole at the base and at the top of the finial, which still shows signs of gilt and white paint. These were acquired at auction in Los Angeles. The finials show signs of age and weathering. Some conservancy is in order for separations and splits in the wood that are consistant with the age of this antique pair.
