Japanese Antique Iron Double Door 1860s-1920s / Steel Gate Wabi Sabi

About the Item

This is a very old Japanese iron double door. They are from the Meiji period (1860s-1920s). It is made entirely of iron. The lean design and ruggedness are beautiful. You can see the careful work of Japanese craftsmen. The rusty texture of the whole piece is like abstract art. It is also recommended as an object to decorate a wall, It can also be used for practical purposes without any problem. This item evokes the spirit of wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence. It is a modest and humble beauty, the beauty of the unconventional, the opposite of vulgarity. This is a unique and very rare item. Weight 42 kg. per piece (84 kg. for two pieces) Size of 1 door Width 600mm Width including hinges 630mm Thickness of single door 40mm Thickness including handles and hinges 125mm Since ancient times, people have created and passed down necessary tools from familiar materials to survive in the severe struggle against nature, and have nurtured a lifestyle culture. By using these objects over a long period of time, they accumulate a flavor and reflect a way of life. The more severe the natural environment and the weaker we are, the stronger their power becomes. In today's world, where cheap and disposable products are encouraged, the act of repeatedly re-creating things around us by modifying them opens up a new world. With this philosophy in mind, we collect beautiful, powerful, and unique carefully selected antiquities from Japan.
