Set of 4 Antique French Carved Oak Double Sided Interior Doors, 19th Century

About the Item

A beautiful set of four French interior doors, both sides of these architecturals were hand-carved in the 1800s. All four doors have identical carvings, with an asymmetrical upper panel over a rectilinear lower panel. The moldings are thick and exquisite, with the unbalanced panels being topped by a crescent-shaped attenuated leaf with a lily flower. Original hardware is still present, including gudgeons at the top and bottom of each door and shapely brass locks on the front side. The back sides still have the top latches with roundel knobs and one of the bottom latches is present. Four frames are also included, each with pintles that are inserted into the side gudgeons. Our set of four carved oak double sided doors would make fantastic interior doors to a bedroom, wine room, or office.

  • Pair of 19th Century French Gothic Style Doors in Carved Pine
    Located in Dallas, TX
This pair of carved antique doors was recently found in Normandy, France. They were made during the 1800s in pine and feature rich yet restrained carvings in the French Gothic style. The panels include arcading and trefoils inside quarter round moldings. Along the bottom panels are carved linen folds, typical of Gothic furnishings. The backs of the doors remain simple, only showing the backs of the panels and old iron hardware. Light traces of the original finish (possibly gesso) can be seen in the carvings. Original iron door handles...

  • Pair of Tall 19th Century Chapel Doors from Belgium
    Located in Dallas, TX
Hand-carved in Belgium, circa 1860, this 11 foot tall pair of doors (132.88 inches) were recently salvaged from a Belgian chapel. They can be considered of the Gothic style, which is sometimes referred to as “pointed architecture”, because of the prevalence of pointed arches in buildings. Each door is composed of six vertical planks constructed with mortise and tenon joinery. All planks have been adorned with iron pyramid protuberances, placed in a repeating pattern. The planks and iron retain their white paint, now naturally weathered over the years, perfect for those who appreciate original condition. At over 11 feet tall, these 19th century chapel doors...

  • Rare 19th Century French Doors with Capriccio Oil Painting and Chinoiserie Verso
    Located in Dallas, TX
Truly a one-of-a-kind set of architecturals, these French doors feature a lovely capriccio oil painting on one side and a lacquered Chinoiserie on the verso. Dating to the 1800s, the wood frames on the front side of the doors (as seen in the main photo) have been painted true white more recently. Raised layers of molding surround a large landscape painting of ochre, brown, and gold. A protruding cornice of rounded molding adorns the frames just below the canvas, above a carved rectangular molding and raised kickplate. The capriccio (a capriccio is an architectural fantasy painting) depicts a massive, bifurcated round staircase surrounding a large outdoor fountain...
