French 'Pillars with Phrygian Cap' Fireback / Backsplash, 19th Century
About the Item
French fireback with two pillars, four heads with a Phrygian cap, an angel and the date of production 1817.
The fireback was produced just after the French Revolution in 1817. The Phrygian cap is the cap of Marianne, a national symbol of France. She symbolizes the 'Triumph of the Republic': freedom and reason. The pillars also symbolize freedom.
The fireback is made of cast iron and has a natural brown patina. Upon request it can be made black / pewter. The condition is good, no cracks.
