About the Item

Stunning antique work-of-art-firscreen with a sculpture of Amphitrite on top. This all handcrafted firescreen from the mid-late 1800s definitely is a one of a kind antique. Back in the day it would have been made to stand in front of the fireplace in the warmer part of the year so that people did not have to look at the dark inside of a fireplace. Nowadays this handcrafted work of art can simply be placed anywhere, pure for its decorative appeal also. The fact that several master craftsman spent a large amount of time, dedication, focus and skill in creating this screen ofcourse ads to its look and feel. Especially in this hasty, modern era more and more people are starting to appreciate the quality, the durability, the deeper meaning and the decorative value of these amazing antiques. This screen is entirely handcrafted and hand carved out of solid nutwood. The details are simply perfect, this screen is as strong and stabile as the day it was made and it has a patina to die for. Apart from a little wear to the turned wooden 'rod' between the stunning legs, almost all of the wooden surface is in museum quality condition. What in fact is in perfect condition, is the handcrafted decoration inside this screen. It is made of thousands of glass beeds and it must have taken the artisan an enormous amount of time to make. We think it was made specifically for this screen between 1930 and 1950, because the original decoration must have been worn. The colors of this entire decoration are as vibrant as the day it was made and with the ancient Greek see goddess Amphitrite watching over her, the ocean liner is guaranteed a 'safe voyage'.
