About the Item
An impressive and most elegant pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu and Wrought Iron andirons. Each exceptional andiron is raised by a spiral fluted column decorated with chandelles supporting an Ormolu Urn of Prosperity. Each urn is decorated with floral richly chased swaging garlands and faun masks as handles. From the column projects an Ormolu horizontal stretcher decorated with Rinceau patterns and centered with Putti holding a medallion featuring a plumed helmet with a torch and quiver. The stretcher leads to a shorter fluted column topped by an acorn finial, which connects to the functional Wrought Iron andirons.
