About the Item

English, 18th century. A Palatial 18th Century Georgian Carved Pine Mantel with Overmantel, executed in the distinguished style reminiscent of the renowned architect and designer William Kent. The fireplace surround features an impressive array of sophisticated carvings from the acanthus leaf carvings on the plinth base, oversized legged scrolls adorned with beadwork and fine quality faux drapery. The header has a central head likely depicting Dionysus with grape vines. Exquisite ribbon & bow carvings surround the central motif and are flanked by a pair of large lion head motifs. The over-mantel is as sophisticated and impressive as the bottom with carved scrolled waves, keltic style knots and bellflowers that are flanked with monumental carved silk curtain drapes which are flowing across the entire surface and held back by large acanthus leaf style bracket supports and a central female figural head. Atop the over-mantle is a carved cornice which can be molded to extend across your room or taken off for your own touch. Additional photographs are available, including the back which shows the impressive age of the mantle.
