A 19th Century Louis XVI Style Chimneypiece in Carrara Marble
About the Item
An Imperial 19th century chimneypiece of good proportions carved in well preserved Carrara marble. The statuesque piece has canted jambs carved with flutes filled with Campanula, otherwise known as Bell Flowers. The flower symbolised a feeling or gratitude, affection, constancy, and everlasting love, implying that this chimneypiece could have been given as a marital gift. The jambs end in corner blocks carved with laurel wreaths, and the frieze is similarly centred with a laurel bouquet.
