About the Item
Blue John / Derbyshire Spar;
Blue John is a Fluor spar from the mines of Treak Cliff Hill, Derbyshire, believed to have been first discovered by the Romans and rediscovered in the 18th century. Nobody is quite sure if it is so called from the French bleu jaune (blue and yellow) or to differentiate it from the lead also found in the same mines which was nick named Black Jack by the 18th century miners.
