About the Item

An impressive, large scale George III carved wooden chimneypiece, circa 1800. This spectacular antique fire surround is beautifully handcarved throughout, featuring acanthus leaf and dentils across a fluted pediment, above a deeply carved frieze of scrolling foliage, decorated with birds, spiral and leaf decoration. For a final touch of grandeur, the jambs are cleverly carved into the form of twisting columns with vine and berry decoration. With its generous size and exquisite carvings, this Georgian fireplace deserves to sit in pride of place in the main room of a large property, certain to become the focal point of any space.
