Large Vintage Brass Claw Foot Fireplace Fender

A rare English brass fireplace fender in a twig or branch motif from the mid-19th century.

Antique French Empire Paw Foot Brass Pierced Decorated Fireplace Mantle Fender. Circa Late 19th Century. Measurements: 7" H x 48" W x 15.5" D.

Constructed of a solid brass frame cast in parts and embossed with acanthus leaves. The central fender is flanked by stepped pedestals topped by solid brass lions connected by a central bar, also of solid brass. The overall design is neo-classical and dates to the Napoleon III period of the mid-to-late 19th Century. The piece appears to have been cleaned regularly, with only modest amounts of soot accumulating in the center directly in front of the firebox.
