Georgian Neoclassical Fireplace with Wedgwood Plaques

About the Item

An elegant Georgian neoclassical style fireplace inlaid with intricate Wedgwood plaques, dating to around 1850. This beautiful antique fireplace centres around three Jasperware Wedgewood porcelain plaques of the Dancing Hours across the frieze, characterised by their pale green colour. The 'Dancing Hours' is one of Wedgwood's most recognisable designs and is attributed to British neoclassical style sculptor, John Flaxman Jr (1755-1826). The rest of the fire surround is equally as ornate, crafted in pine and applied with composition mouldings to the jambs and end blocks. It is beautiful neoclassical style fireplace for properties period and modern alike thanks to its elegance and fine intricacy. Wedgwood Wedgwood is one of the most famous names in British pottery. Founded in May 1759 in Stoke-on-Trent by Josiah Wedgwood, the porcelain manufacturer became one of the largest manufacturers of Staffordshire pottery. Some of the most iconic Wedgwood pieces form part of their Jasperware range, identifiable by its unglazed finish available in a variety of colours with reliefs contrasted in white. To this very day, Wedgwood is renowned for its timeless elegance, reflecting fine quality and innovative British design.
