Marquetry parquet. Late 19th century

About the Item

This very beautiful parquet flooring of about 9 m² is covering a rectangular surface of 4 meters by 2.62 meters. It is from a private domestic house from the late 19th century. It is special for its mixture of different woods, such as oak wood, mahogany (mainly from Cuba), elm (distinctive for its intertwined veins which are reminiscent of marble) and rosewood, and categorize this wood floor as a rare marquetry piece of assembled woods. The polychromatic decor is contrasted thanks to the different varieties of woods used for the marquetry. A dynamic frieze is framing an elegant composition of diamond and square shapes interspersed with stylized flowers. It is in very good state as the dismantling was very smooth.
