Regence-style lead grotesque fountain mask

About the Item

France, 19th century Lead This ornamental fountain mask exemplifies the Regence style, a transitional aesthetic between the late Baroque and early Rococo periods in France . Cast in lead, the grotesque visage features exaggerated features and fantastical motifs characteristic of the period’s fascination with theatricality and classical mythology. Originally designed as a water spout for a garden fountain, the mask served both decorative and functional purposes, channeling water while lending a dramatic presence to the landscape. The use of lead, a durable and malleable material, allowed for fine detailing, which remains visible despite the natural patina acquired over time.

Stone Well from the Louis XIV Period
Located in SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, FR
This circular well from the Louis XIV period is entirely carved in stone. The shaft of the well is composed of an eight pieces arrangement forming a "boudin" molding. The curbstone is marked by the patina of time and is thus irregular in shape. The base of the well is surmounted by a stone structure composed of two trapezoidal molded stones that hold a wooden winch and its chain. The whole base is topped by a one piece stone roof, the upper edge of which forms a four slope roof. While on one stone is engraved the date "1830", we believe that this stone well...
