A complimentary pair of rattan arm chairs in natural finish with colored trimming, American,C.1920s.
This style of furniture was incredibly popular in the 1920s into the 1930s and referred to as stick wicker, a very stylish and simple contemporary design. Both chairs are very similar in in size and design and came from the same estate most likely purchased as lady and gents chairs, Modernist stick wicker chairs for the home were all the rage at this point as consumers tastes were changing to less formal or fussy styling and Art Modern was now the new theme for architecture, housing and interiors.These rattan chairs are in excellent condition done in a natural finish with colored trims of black, sienna and green which add dramatic coloring to the chairs wrappings.The chairs are upholstered in green cilantro Sunbrella all weather fabrics.
A great looking set of chairs ready to be enjoyed in any room in your home particularly the sun room or covered porch.

A matched pair of Antique Art Deco Style Wicker Lounge Chairs, American, C. 1920s. These chairs were the height of fashion in the 1920s. Painted reed furniture was all the rage for a short period with their dramatic design shapes and colorful patterns. Heywood Wakefield, whom I attribute this pair of chairs to and several other companies offered extensive lines of this furniture which were being influenced by the the French Art Deco style popular during this period.This style furniture was last seen in the 1929 Heywood Wakefield catalogues as the depression, change in styles and prohibitive cost of hand weaving etc put an end to this great era.
