About the Item
A genuine reclaimed church font from a small welsh parish in mid-wales. Dating to 1863 when St Johns Church, in the small hamlet village of Llanbrynmair, in the foothills of the Cambrian mountains, was built, this original sandstone font stands at nearly 6ft tall and is of substantial proportions. Sitting on a large square sandstone base, the font comprise three hand carved sandstone blocks, the top of which is a large round bowl with a deep basin, originally for baptism.
Hand carved lettering with Canterbury style Anglican cross symbols to the bowl - one faith + one baptism + one lord +
The font has a hole running up the centre of the column where the original water source would have flowed into the basin. This could be used to run a water supply to the font or as a drainage hole.
An impressive imposing centre piece that will adorn a large garden adding character and history.
Sizes:
Base: 91cm x 91cm x 18cm / 3ft x 3ft x 7"
Overall height: 135cm / 53"
Bowl measures 73cm / 28.5" across (outside diameter)
The piece is in good sound condition, a couple of small losses to the sandstone as pictured. The piece has been outside for several years giving it a lovely weathered patina. A heavy item that will need to be handled with care.
