About the Item

An Italian pair of barley twist columns with faux-painted porphyry, from the early 20th century. This antique pair of pedestals from Italy each feature barely-twist bodies which have been hand-painted in a faux finish to look like porphyry (a type of rock with coarse-grain crystals). These columns have a circular banding/moulding about their tops and bottoms, along with a squared top shelf. And in keeping with the top design, they are raised up on a square-shaped wood base. The tops are smooth and flat. There is a nicely aged patina throughout. This pair of early 20th century Italian pedestals are approximately 4.25 feet tall, and would make a lovely decorative statement flanking a living room or entry hall wall, adorn with some wonderful art or plants.
