Pair of 1950's Italian Blue-Green Alabaster Pedestal Columns
About the Item
Pair of vintage Italian alabaster pedestal columns in vibrant blue-green color (not quite turquoise) and embellished with gilt brass bands and button medallions.
Their extraordinary color appears to have been achieved with a penetrating transparent dye or paint-like finish (refer to image 20 for a view of the underside).
The tops (which are not affixed to the the rest) and the bases are of octagonal form whereas the body of the columns are cylindrical and in multiple segments and held together by a threaded steel rod which runs through the center and secured at both ends.
The rods can be loosened or removed for ease of transport, then reassembled on site.
Their smaller scale makes them perfect for displaying a pair of vases, sculptures, lamps or even flora.
I've never seen another in this color that was actually made of marble and not merely faux painted wood or plaster.
