About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning pair of French Empire style heavy marble column pedestals with kingwood veneer and ormolu mounts. A very good looking, decorative and heavy pair of marble columns, designed to seat busts, statues and plants although in todays market they are considered art pieces in their own right. The marble is solid, its tapered in all the corners so has a very tactile feel to it, the Kingwood veneer is very rare and common only on the highest quality pieces, the Ormolu mounts scream French Empire decadence and unnecessary excess which let’s face it that’s what Empire furniture is all about These pieces aren’t original period hence the significantly lower price, they have some age to them but I’m not sure how much, to my eyes and hands they look and feel late 19th-early 20th century but they could be earlier. In terms of the condition they have some light age related marks here and there, one of the marble tops has a ring around it from a pot, otherwise they are in lovely order throughout. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
