Pair of Italian Late 17th Century Baroque Period Giltwood Torchières

About the Item

A sensational and monumentally scaled true pair of Italian late 17th century Baroque period giltwood Torchières. Each torchière is raised by a square tapered base with striking most decorative scrolled feet and elegant carvings of foliate designs centering an oak leaf set on an elegant lattice pattern. Above are beautiful maidens draped in most impressive and wonderfully executed draped flowing dresses with finely detailed charming flowers in her hair while standing on rock like designs. Each maiden is holding magnificent overflowing cornucopias with richly carved fruit and floral movements below the circular display tiers with fine mottled borders. All original gilt throughout.
