Italian Painted & Carved Wood Planter, 19th Century

About the Item

Outstanding late 19th century Italian Baroque style painted and parcel gilt carved wood and gesso planter. The elongated planter is beautifully hand painted in a royal red and parcel-gilt motif, the sides are decorated in a scrolling foliate inspiration, terminating in a foot board depicting a gilt crown flanked by two winged angels, supported by two conforming pedestals It was made in the 19th century as a cradle for a royal family, see carved crown transferred to a jardinière in the 20th century. Measures: height 28in, width 24in, depth 41in.
