About the Item
A Pair of Male Lions in carved marble resting on octagonal attached slab bases. Originally purchased in London and having incredible classic form. One of the Lions rests with his head resting on crossed paws with eyes closed, his companion alert and snarling with eyes wide open. The Pair are strongly carved with good musculature and realism. The sleeping Lion displays more weathering resulting in a slightly darker coloration than the other and it is possible the pair are compatible and not a matched pair. The alert Lion is longer than the sleeping Lion and the separate dimensions are given below.
The Sleeping Lion measures 40” long by 14” deep by 17” high.
The Alert Lion measures 45” long by 14” deep by 17.5” high.
Condition: Please see detail photos. There are various signs of age and wear including a replaced snout which has led to age patina loss (see photo) and hip on the Recumbent Lion as well as a chip on the base next to the right-side facing paw , some surface wear marks and expected and enhancing weathering to both Lions. The aforementioned is for accuracy as the Lion Pair present in a Classic and impressive way.
