About the Item
Marvelous antique French jester sculpture.
This large and amazing sculpture of a sitting court jester in the Renaissance Style truly is a rare find. The incredible details in the clothes, his facial features and his perfect body posture tell us that this can only be the work of a master carver. The large size makes this work of art extra rare and impressive, but what makes this jester really stand out from anything you ever saw, is the sinister look on his face. Although often referred to as 'fools', court jesters, just like modern day entertainers, often were exactly the opposite. Their higher than average intelligence and their storytelling, musical and acrobatic skills actually made them highly appreciated and all round entertainers that became members of the household of a nobleman or monarch. It is our belief that this majestic jester is in the middle of telling a gripping story, keeping his audience captivated not only with his story and voice, but also with the sinister expression on his face. Possibly ending his story with a smart joke that will have his audience burst into laughter. The patina on this top quality carved and meaningful sculpture makes it even more attractive. In our images he is holding candles and with those lit in the evenings this jester will look awesome, no matter where you decide to put him on display. We can also provide electrical candles or small lanterns that will be professionally wired for safe and immediate usage the world over.
Our price for this one of a kind sculpture includes perfect packing and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door within 4 workdays.

Late 19th Century Live Size Renaissance Revival Italian Figural Carved Sculpture
Located in Chicago, IL
This late 19th-century carved wooden sculpture is a lifesize depiction of a young nobleman of the Italian Renaissance. The piece is made entirely from wood and carved gesso under an ebonized finish, giving it the illusion of an oxidized bronze sculpture. The young man is posed in a classic Contrapposto stance, which is an Italian term that means "counterpoise". This term usually refers to a standing human figure carrying its weight on one leg so that the opposite hip rises to produce a relaxed curve in the body, a dynamic pose that is most associated with Renaissance art. He establishes his stance with a hand on his large belt and one hand in the air holding a torch. This Renaissance revival piece is highly detailed through intricate workmanship, down to the Lion of Saint Mark...
