About the Item
A sensational and most impressive French 19th century Louis XV st. Belle Epoque Period Rouge Griotte marble and Ormolu centerpiece/urn, attributed to Barbedienne. This stunning lidded urn, which is most likely by Barbedienne, is raised by a triangular shaped Rouge Griotte marble mottled base. Above is the draped Ormolu support with a lattice design amidst foliate scrolls and sides with hanging tassels. Above is the gadroon shaped marble body with a tapered and fluted neck. The urn is richly decorated by central masculine reserves with mustaches and Fleur de Lys like movements, while flanked by scrolled foliate designs. The mounts lead to classically designed cherubs with intertwined merman like tails, while holding the top Ormolu rim of the urn with a central shell like top reserve. Above is the removable lid which is richly decorated by Ormolu scrolled foliate designs and a tall central vertical finial. Exquisite quality and extremely decorative.
