19th century Rural Egg Collection Buttocks Basket

About the Item

Imagine this gorgeous textural piece of rustic history being carried about a farm in the 1850's, collecting eggs on a spring morning. Now, imagine this same beautiful piece today in your kitchen or other space in your home that needs that perfect rustic touch. These buttocks baskets were created typically with oak and sometimes ash in such a way that enabled them to carry heavy loads of eggs and other farm type items. The curved handle runs through the body giving the extra support necessary for such a stunning, yet utilitarian piece. This type of basket design originated in Europe and made its way to the United States early on in history. This piece is in wonderful condition for its age!
