Antique Burmese Red Carved Wood Offering Basket from the 19th Century

About the Item

A 19th century Burmese offering basket made of carved wood painted red. This round basket displays a three-legged base with detailed carvings on the edge. The lid adopts a Burmese temple shape, with a sharp top surmounting a gadroon dome. The whole basket is made of red painted wood with time’s patina evident. This basket was used to display offerings, probably in temples, in Burma. During most of the 19th century Burma was ruled by members of the Konbaung dynasty, the last dynasty that would rule the country. This Burmese 19th century red metal offering basket would be an impressive decorative item in most homes, perhaps in an entrance where it could serve to hold keys or in a living room where it could hold candy.
