Antique Japanese Karamono Style Hinged Hitsu for Kimono Storage

About the Item

Large Japanese hinged hitsu (kimono storage coffer) woven of bamboo in the Chinese style with broad expanses of two layers of woven mats as the siding and the convex lid trimmed in thicker bamboo and fine knotting with a wood base complete with decorative bronze latch, handles and hinges. Measuring:  12-1/2” high x 23-1/2” wide x 18” deep. Meiji Period, circa 1900. Provenance: Japan Art Market
