About the Item

Rare vintage majolica footed bowl is decorated with raised reliefs of cherubs playing in garden on both front and back sides of the bowl; two handles in shape of cherubs peeking from large abstract leaves complement the ornate design. The inside of the bowl is decorated with gold flower motif, and details of reliefs are hand painted with gold and lightly shaded. The bowl is signed on the bottom with Cardel Italy and mold/design number' it is in good vintage condition with some minor, age-appropriate glaze issues that do not detract from overall beauty and quality of the piece. Cardel was an Italian exporter of glass and porcelain items in the 1940's and 1950's. A large number of studios supplied Cardel with their products, but their pieces are not usually marked with the manufacturer's name, as it was customary at the time, so it's hard to attribute the bowl to a particular studio or artist.
