Exquisite Moss Agate Pedestal Bowl with Silver Mounts, Unmarked, Early 20th C.

About the Item

Exquisite Moss Agate Pedestal Bowl with Silver Mounts, Unmarked, Early 20th Century A refined and sculptural small pedestal bowl carved from richly patterned moss agate and elegantly mounted with silver trim. This beautifully balanced form measures 3.75 inches wide by 2.5 inches deep and 1 inch high, and rests on a low circular foot encircled in silver. The bowl’s rim is also bordered with a fine silver band embellished with delicate hand-applied scroll or bead detailing, giving it a subtle classical flourish. The stone itself is a particularly striking specimen of moss agate, with swirling inclusions in forest green, deep olive, and earthy cream. Its high polish and semi-translucent quality create a gemlike effect, catching and diffusing light in softly variegated patterns across the surface. While unmarked, the silver appears to be finely crafted and likely continental or British in origin. The overall composition and workmanship suggest an early 20th-century date—possibly made as a desk or vanity piece, or as part of a gentleman’s collection of natural curiosities. Elegant, compact, and quietly luxurious, this bowl would make a distinctive gift or addition to a curated tabletop or collector’s cabinet.
