FLORENTINE ART GLASSWORKS Handmade Mid Century Glass Basket w. Handle ITALY 1960

About the Item

Italian Mid Century hand-made olive Green glass basket with handle made by Florentine Art Glassworks in the 1960s. The vessel has an undulating body and the handle is secured by 2 glass holders on the rim of the body. Please note, the handle does not stay up by itself. There is no history (that I could find) of this Glassworks company but more than likely it was situated in the town of Empoli, famous for their green glass. Just beautiful. The first record of glass blowing in Tuscany dates back to the 12th century. Tuscany had over 100 factories making hand made glass after WWII but now only six remain. Original foil label: VERRERIES D’ART FLORENTINES -TRAVAILLE A MAIN -MADE IN ITALY -HAND WORKED – FLORENTINE ART GLASSWORKS Condition: Very good condition, no damages. Minor wear consistent with age and use. A couple of air bubbles in the glass created while it was being blown. Please look at all images. Measurements: 4 1/2 inches high to rim – 5 3/4 inches to top of holders – 1/2 inch thick handle – 7 inches diameter top – 4 3/4 inches diameter bottom

Mid-Century Modern Decorative Plate by Hungarian artist Gorka Livia (1925-2011). This plate like all of her ceramics is hand thrown and has a freeform feel due the uneven shape of the vessel which is almost oblong. The color is mustard yellow decorated with two large stylized fish in black. Pisces? In the image of the back, it looks like dirty spots but is actually where the glaze was thinly applied and the clay color shows through. It was made to hang and a wire loop was incorporated unto the back. The plate dates from the 1960s.
