About the Item

An imposing charger depicting a silver mythical creature to the center, similar to the Níðhöggr, a water dragon on a mottled deep red background. Silver air bubbles are scattered across the plate reminiscent of the underwater theme that is often depicted Scandinavian designs of the first half of the 20th century. Wilhelm Kage (1889-1960), Swedish artist and designer, was the artistic director of the Gustavsbergs Porslinsfabrik as of 1917 for over 30 years. "Argenta", silver on glazed ceramic was Wilhelm Kage's most successful range, usually produced in green, the vibrant deep red glaze pieces are rare due to a more complex manufacturing process. The piece is fully marked at reverse center, Gustavsberg, Kage, model number 909.
