About the Item

This is a Seto tea bowl made in the 15th century, which is older than the Edo period. Seto is a kiln with a long history in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It is said to have originated around the 13th century. Yakishime pottery, which is fired at high temperatures, has been common until now, but in Seto, the technique of applying glaze was developed at an early stage. The ash glaze, which is made by melting straw ash and applying it as a glaze, turns into a transparent green glaze like this. In addition, since this is an excavated product, it is restored by kintsugi, which is in a disjointed state. In addition, it was originally made by joining pieces of multiple tea bowls together, using a technique called “Yobitsugi” in Japan. Therefore, the color of the glaze is slightly different, and the expression is completely different when viewed from each angle. That is also the real charm of this technique called "Yobitsugi". I think that this can actually be used as a tea bowl, but since it is an excavated product, it smells a little like soil when liquid is added. Therefore, you can enjoy using it as a bowl to hold sweets such as candy and cookies, or as a vase to decorate your favorite flowers with water. However, this is a very beautiful and attractive thing in itself, so I think it would be very nice just to decorate it in a collection room or living room. A dedicated storage wooden box is also included. It's a wonderful vessel that feels wabi sabi. Recommended item.
