About the Item

Sgraffito carved & painted circular soapstone shallow footed bowl. The interior of the bowl is decorated in a red ochre ground with faded purple circles centered with a red dot. A dark purple scolloped border is joined by four fluid dark purple lines that converge on a center point. The interior of the bowl is covered with sgraffito patterns of elongated leaves. Kenya, circa 1950.
