About the Item

This large turquoise or 'argenta' Art Deco pottery bowl was done by Wilheim Kage for Gustavsberg of Sweden in approximately 1939. The bowl is done with scrolled handles and a pedestal base and heavily decorated with applied silver. The outside of the bowl shows dramatic inverted silver chevrons bordered within a wide banding with inscribed overlaid scrolling and the base is accented with a beaded motif. The interior of the bowl features a reclining nude mermaid with her hand on a fish done with an inscribed figure with applied silver. The inner rim of the bowl is done with complimentary beading to that used on the circumference of the pedestal base. The bowl is clearly signed on the bottom with the Gustavsberg factory maker's mark with "Kage" underneath and the model numbers.
