About the Item
Superb large example of Barbini 'Scavo' glass. Amethyst glass with cobalt blue highlights. Wonderful markings, colours and proportions.
Signature to base. One of the largest sizes.
Barbini's Scavo works are among our favourite Italian glass designs. If you haven't tried it already, a grouping of Barbini's Scavo vessels together is mind-blowingly good. The earthy aesthetic! Glass explored in new, raw and honest ways! Bravo Barbini!
Things that make us love this bowl: the crystalline detail of the finish; the squat but elegant shape; the colours bleeding organically; the deep cobalt blue touches.

This wonderful footed earthenware planter can be used as a vase or bowl. It presents as an impressive object in it's own right, or can be used as a plant pot holder.

It was purchased in the late 1960s or early 1970s from Israel by a dedicated collector of ceramics for use as an Ikebana vessel, and shipped to Australia...

Monumental Signed Shunichi Inoue White and Rose Ash Glazed Vase 1978
By Shunichi Inoue
Located in Melbourne, AU
An exceptional example of the work of master Japanese potter, Shunichi Inoue. This vessel dates from his Australian residency and is signed and dated 1978.
There is potency in this very simple form - it has a powerful Cynthian presence, stillness, composure, that is, it is reminiscent of the calm abiding presence of the moon.
Shunichi Inoue studied ceramics at Kyoto City University of Arts 1969-75. He travelled to Australia to lecturer in ceramics at the Bendigo College of Advanced Education in Victoria, Australia where he stayed for three years.
He returned to Australia in late 1984 as a visiting professor and again in 1993, when he made an extended stay.
He was an active exhibitor and had an important influence on Australian pottery...
