Large Charger or Wall Plate Roberto Ceccherini for Fratelli Colzi, 1976

About the Item

This charger is very large, very beautiful and very rare. Roberto Ceccherini started his ceramics career young, as a designer for Fratelli Colzi. He has gone on to have an illustrious career as a sculptor and ceramics educator professor in Italy. His studio is based in Sesto, near Florence. This very large charger, designed for wall hanging, is amongst his earliest work. His interest in glaze colour experimentation and delicate geometric precision is already apparent here. We love the impressive scale of this charger, and its confident simplicity. It appears at its largest when laid flat as a platter but is best preserved as a decorative item, not to be used carelessly. Please note: we've provided a lot of images showing old glaze repairs. These seem glaring in the images. Truth be told, they are completely unnoticeable when the charger is hanging on display. It wasn't until we handled the charger that we noticed a difference in texture which brought these to our attention. They are well colour-matched and sit on the back or lower edge of the lip. The final four images are of the back of the charger where these repairs appear more obvious.
