About the Item

A lens shaped op art style "siderale" bowl by Flavio Poli for Seguso, made on Murano, ca. 1952. The Siderali or Astrali are probably Flavio Poli's most famous design for Seguso Vetri d'Arte and were pictured on the covers of quite some Murano glass reference books. This particular piece is an amber glass sommerso bowl with alternating rings of grey and hues of pink, carved and cut into the shape of a lens and likely always intended to be an artistic object creating a visual effect, just like an early piece of op-art. Similar Siderali objects and vessels can be found in literature. Cf.: M. Heiremans, Seguso Vetri d'Arte, Arnoldsche, Stuttgart 2014, pages 256 and 263, as well as the backside of the cover. The piece is hard to capture on a photo, so please check out the video as soon as we have it online.
