Mason's Ironstone Handled Desert Bowl in Fence Vase and Doves Pattern, Ca 1825

About the Item

This is a very attractive two handled shallow Desert Bowl or Dish made by Mason's Ironstone Pottery, in the early 19th century. The bowl is decorated in the Fence Vase and Dove chinoiserie influenced pattern, which shows a central flower filled vase, standing on a fenced wooden area, with a complex border which incorporates three roundels with doves and connected by a stylized floral design. The pattern is hand-painted in typical Mason's bold enamels with additional hand gilding. This pattern is illustrated on Page 98 and 99 of A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns published by The Mason's Collectors' Club.. The underside has a border scroll pattern around the base rim with a Mason's transfer-printed crown to the center, and pattern no. 1815 hand-painted in red on the inner base rim edge, dating this piece to the early part of the 19th century, 1820-1830.
