About the Item

A Murano glass bowl by Barovier & Toso, Italy, circa 1980s. This piece merges clear and red Murano glass with a suspended layer of gold particles, creating a luminous, layered effect. The form recalls Barovier’s A Grosse Costolature bowls from the 1950s, with a deeply ribbed exterior and rounded profile. Executed using the Bullicante technique, the bowl features fine air bubbles suspended within the clear glass, enhancing depth and light diffusion. Beneath this ribbed outer shell lies a layer of gold-flecked glass, giving the bowl its warm glow. The interior is cased in bold red glass, producing a striking contrast and rich visual interplay. Dimensions Diameter: 16 cm Height: 7 cm Condition Good vintage condition, with minor surface wear consistent with age. A refined example of 1980s Murano glass, combining technical precision with strong colour and material presence—typical of Barovier & Toso’s postwar production.

Murano Glass Shell Dish in Red, Attributed to Archimede Seguso, 1950s
By Archimede Seguso
Located in Glasgow, GB
A decorative Murano glass dish, attributed to Murano glass maestro Archimede Seguso. Handcrafted in Italy in the 1950s, this elegant dish takes the form of a scallop shell, with its bottom edges pinched inward to create the distinctive shape. Made from vibrant red Murano glass and seamlessly fused with a sheet of gold leaf—a signature technique in mid-century Murano glass design—this combination results in a rich, organic pattern. During the firing process, the stretching and forming of the molten glass produce a concentric pattern of gold flakes that radiate outward, echoing the delicate textures found in a natural scallop shell. Measuring 11 cm in width and length, with a height of 3.5 cm, this vintage Murano...
