About the Item

Designed by Berndt Friberg for Gustavsberg. Marked with year letter "K" and the number "42". This refined mid-20th century piece by Berndt Friberg is a striking example of his mastery in both form and glaze. The bowl features a low, gently flared profile with a rounded body that subtly tapers toward the foot, showcasing a quiet yet confident balance in proportion and curvature. It is finished in a lustrous sang de boeuf (oxblood) glaze, beautifully contrasted by green jade-like speckles and streaks that appear to float on the surface. The glaze application evokes the tradition of Far Eastern ceramics, especially ancient Chinese stoneware, which strongly influenced Friberg’s aesthetic. The base bears Friberg’s incised signature and the Gustavsberg hand mark. In very good vintage condition with only minimal wear consistent with age and use.
