About
Exquisite contemporary Japanese Ko-Imari (old Imari) style charger gilded and hand painted on a stunning clam shape porcelain, crafted and signed by renowned Kiln of the Imari-Arita region of southern Japan, and is inspired by shapes and designs popularized in the mid-19th century.
This exceptional piece depicts the traditional “Sho-Chiku-Bai” or “Three Friends of Winter” motif consisting of pine, bamboo and plum, commonly used in New Year’s decorations in Japanese homes. The pine tree symbolizes strength, bamboo symbolizes longevity, and the plum tree in its wintry bloom represents beauty and hopeful anticipation. The delicately ribbed clam shell shape and scalloped rim are accentuated by intricate patterns and the generous use of gold in patterns that reappear on the back of the piece.
This striking porcelain charger comes in a custom made wooden case.
