Japanese Contemporary Red Black Platinum Porcelain Charger by Master Artist, 3

About the Item

Exquisite Japanese contemporary Japanese decorative porcelain charger, hand painted in iron-red and blue, set against a stunning platinum-gilded and black wave patterns background, combined with a generous use of gold outlining. This is a signed masterpiece belonging to the signature fish collection by highly acclaimed master porcelain artist. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain, a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. He is the recipient of prestigious awards for his unique signature platinum and gold work on porcelain. The artist's profile is available upon request. This stunning piece entertains the eyes with two striking koi carp in iron-red and deep blue with generous gold details, swimming toward each other on a flattened ovoid surface designed to accentuate the rounded features of the koi carp. The platinum-gilded surface creates a vertical wave pattern that covers the entire piece and highlights the luster of platinum against a matte finish. "Fired-on gold,” the artist's signature style highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as five-ten firings. This elegant porcelain vase comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: D 18 in H 2 in.
