Spode Armorial Porcelain Dish of King of Oudh Nawab of Awadh Ghazi-ud-Din Haider

About the Item

This antique Spode armorial plate originates from the Royal Court of Lucknow and belonged to Ghazi-ud-Din Haider, the first King of Oudh (Awadh) in the 19th century. This porcelain plate was part of an opulent table service commissioned for Ghazi-ud-Din Haider, the first King of Oudh (Awadh), in early 19th-century Lucknow, India. The plate is part of an extravagant table service commissioned for Ghazi-ud-Din Haider in early 19th-century Lucknow, India. It reflects the opulent tastes of the Royal Court and features an armorial crest that incorporates Persian and Mughal influences. Its elements include a twin fish emblem, a royal crown, and a katar (a ceremonial dagger) symbolizing authority. Produced by Spode in Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 1815-1820, the service was designed by Robert Home, the court artist of Oudh, who also created the king's coronation regalia and coat of arms. The plate's border pattern is based on Spode pattern 2394. It features pink enamel, gilded floral motifs, and flower swags. Marks: Spode's mark of the period in iron red Dimensions: 8" diameter Condition: Excellent Price: $420 The Kingdom of Oudh was one of India's wealthiest states, renowned for its patronage of the arts, grand palaces, and a unique fusion of European and Indo-Persian styles. Following the British annexation of Oudh in 1856, much of its royal collection was lost or destroyed during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, making surviving pieces like this one rare.
