Thai Celadon Bowl, 14-15th Century

About the Item

A beautiful celadon plate from the kilns of Sawankhalok, one of the main centers of Thai ceramics during the Sukhotai period (1230-1438). Incised with floral patterns. Celadon produced in Thailand between the 14th and 16th centuries was renowned for its distinctive green glaze and crackled finish. These ceramics were made in the kilns of the Sawankhalok region during the Sukhothai and early Ayutthaya periods, featuring intricately incised designs, mostly with floral or geometric patterns. The ware, typically bowls, plates, and jars, was known for its jade-like celadon glaze and durable stoneware body. Unlike the discarded pottery unearthed since the ancient kilns were discovered, which contain numerous defects and were classified as "wasters", this plate is in rather pristine condition, with no significant warps, deformations or losses. Beautiful green-blue tone typical of Celadon, crackled glaze, floral incise pattern with geometric diagonal grid around the sides, with a large flower in the center.
