About the Item

A brilliant example of Jean Mayodon's fascination with mythological figures, especially gods and goddesses cavorting in the sea, this fine Art Deco plate depicts two Tritons, one standing and one sitting, in the midst of the waves. The entire surface of this piece is glazed in a beautiful, mottled rich green color overlaid with veins of gold. Mayodon was one of the great masters of Art Deco porcelain and ceramics, and created a great variety of ceramic vases, jars, plates and bowls. The reverse side is clearly marked with Mayodon's monogram, and is dated 1943.
