This is an antique verger's desk box. An English, oak ecclesiastical bible case, dating to the William III period, circa 1700. Beautifully presented desk case with fine detail and figuring Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order Select oak stocks show fine grain interest and an abundance of medullary rays Rich caramel hues beam beneath a wax polish finish Canted lid opens upon a pair of dashing iron strap hinges, reveals a suite of three drawers Antique lock to fascia with spade clasp — untested, key absent The lid carved with the monogram 'MH', set within a geometric motif with foliate icon Blind fretwork carvings accentuate the front fascia with a striking scrolled leaf pattern This is a captivating antique verger's desk box, as fascinating as a historic piece, as it is attractive to behold. The oak figuring is a visual delight and is as useful today as it was 300 years ago. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready to enjoy.
