About the Item
A lovely Chinese turquoise ground cloisonne "double peach" box and cover with shaped hardwood stand, Republic Period (1911 to 1949), early 20th century, China.
The box formed as a pair of conjoined peaches with gilt stems. The exterior decorated in the cloisonne technique featuring branches laden with fruit and bearing flowers and leaves. The heavy peaches in shades of blush pink, pale green, and white enamels. The flowers in bright yellow, red, green and blue enamels. The branches of red enamel, and the leaves in various shades of green and blue enamel. The gilt metal wires standing out brightly against the colorful enamels. All against a turquoise enamel ground.
The lid opens to reveal a delightful and colorfully enameled interior with branches of heavy peaches floating amongst scrolling clouds, all against a turquoise enamel ground.
The double peach box is presented on a custom carved and shaped hardwood stand. The stand raised on four feet and features a high, stepped waist, and a shape with gracious curves that conform to the box.
